Breed specific legislation

(Denise wrote)
Some people are unaware of breed specific legislation (BSL) that ban certain breeds from particular cities and towns. BSL mainly targets Pit Bull type dogs, followed by Rottweilers. Other targeted breeds include, German Shepherds, Chow Chows, Presa Canarios, Dobermans, Cane Corsos, Huskies, Boxers, and mixes of these.

There are 75 breeds that are targeted by BSL throughout the United States. There may not be a BSL in place (near you) against one of these breeds, but it could happen in the future. Each jurisdiction that has BSL in place has the targeted breeds listed.

This website has a list of places where BSL is in effect and they do a very good job of keeping the list current: http://rott-n-chatter.webs.com/

For a definition and more information on Breed Specific Legislation please check this website: http://hubpages.com/hub/Breedspecificlegislation

Can you find the pit bull? Play the "Find the pit bull game" at this website: http://www.pbrc.net/poppysplace/games/AdultFindabull/findpitbull_v4.html

Carry a printout of the list of BSL areas in your vehicle, because there are so many jurisdictions that certain dog breeds cannot safely go in. Know the areas that are not safe to stop in for gas, potty breaks, etc.

If you're in a State Park, MO Conservation Area, etc that is located within a BSL area the dogs can go too because the State has jurisdiction over local laws.
